The Purposes of National Honor Society:
-• To promote character.
-• Create enthusiasm for scholarship.
-• To promote leadership.
-• Stimulate a desire to render service

General Meeting Dates

NHS General Meetings are held at 4:10 PM in the cafeteria.
General Meetings are the first Wednesday of each month unless noted otherwise. Members must attend all meetings. Missing more than 3 meetings per year can result in disciplinary action.

Criteria for Selection

Character: A student with good character upholds principles of morality and ethics, is cooperative, demonstrates high standards of honesty and reliability, shows courtesy, concern, and respect for others, and generally maintains a good and clean lifestyle

Scholarship: Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors who have a cumulative grade point average of 90.0000/100.0000 are eligible.

Leadership: Student leaders are resourceful, good problem-solvers, promoters of school activities, idea-contributors, dependable, and persons who exemplify positive attitudes about life.

Service: This quality is defined through the voluntary contributions made by a student to the school or community, done without compensation and with a positive, courteous, and enthusiastic spirit.


Membership Obligations

Members of the John Jay High School Chapter of the National Honor Society are obligated to these rules below:
-• Maintain good conduct, behavior, and leadership skills
-• Maintain a 90.0000 grade point average or above
-• Attain 20 hours of service by a designated date

Those who fail to meet these obligations will be place on probation or possibly dismissed from the program.
