"Learning and teaching should not stand on opposite banks
and just watch the river flow by; instead, they should embark
together on a journey down the water."

~ Loris Malaguzzi, childhood education specialist

Welcome to the Language Arts Department

"All we do is read and write in this class," is a common sentiment among English students. However, the Northside English curriculum integrates writing, reading and grammar, with an emphasis on the writing process, to help all students gain in knowledge of their English based skills.
Students are expected to write regularly and to compose refined process writings which have been developed through prewriting, drafting, revising and editing. They are also expected to continuously read as a way to improve their skills.
The John Jay English department consists of a nurturing group of highly trained and qualified professionals who are willing to work with students and parents to achieve success in the Language Arts and prepare students for both the work force and college.
