SHOE
DRIVE

Decemeber 7th
On December 7th, Student Council hosted our annual Christmas
Shoe Drive. The Student Council along with NHS (National Honor Society),
John Jay AFJROTC (Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corp.),
ECP (Early Child Development), and Home Economics all worked together
to make this drive a success.
We took 100 elementary students from 5 elementary schools
to Payless to buy $25 worth of shoe-wear and then take them to Big Lots
to but them $25 worth of toys. In total, we need to raise $5,000 to
make this shoe drive a success.
"The John Jay Shoe Drive was such a success and
so many children
benefited from the experience. Your willingness to allow your staff
and
student body to participate in this wonderful program has made a world
of difference in the lives of so many children. Our Passmore community
(children, parents, and staff) is extremely appreciative to you for
sponsoring this program, for allowing Mr. Buchholtz (Mr. Santa Claus)
and his team of elves (John Jay students, staff, and all those who
contributed) to be able to give of their time and to model/demonstrate
to others the beautiful example of what true altruism is all about.
I
just wish others had seen the children's faces- their beaming smiles
and
their eyes filled with excitement. It certainly brought joy to the
hearts of those who witnessed it. Thank you, again, for giving the
children an opportunity to have a wonderful and merry holiday season."
-Suzanne Diou (School Counselor)
"Thank you for giving our elementary students
their opportunity to
experience the developmental Assets through your students. Your
students were so caring and patient with our group. They provided such
positive role models for the elementary students. You would have been
proud to see the high schoolers on the floor helping fit the little
ones for shoes or helping them select a toy appropriate for them. Whether
it was on the bus, the stores or the Jay culinary dept.,each high schooler
help each little one feel so, so important. We appreciate and commend
the commitment to community that you and your staff are teaching our
John Jay students. Happy Holidays."
-Van Riojas (School counselor)
"Yesterday was an exciting day for so many children. The Passmore
community (children, parents, and staff) are extremely appreciative
for
the smiles you provide for our children, yesterday. Mr. Buchholtz (Mr.
Santa Claus) and his team of elves (John Jay students, staff, and all
those who contributed) demonstrated beautiful examples of true altruism.
And your participation in allowing all this to take place has made so
many children smile. To see their faces certainly brings joy to our
hearts. Thank you for helping give these children an opportunity to
have a wonderful and merry holiday season."
Suzanne Diou (School Counselor)
"Thank you for allowing our Meadow Village students to participate
in
your annual John Jay Shoe Drive. We appreciate all the hard work and
sentiment behind it. You have done a wonderful job.
Our students had a great time!"
Sincerely,
-Joi Leanne Davis (School Counselor)
