Activities

Art Club: The Art Club meets once a week for 2 hours after school on Wednesdays. Students have been working with clay, papier mache, paper mosaics, pencil drawings, and wood sculpture. They have even made some rain sticks. Club sponsors are Mr. Garza and Mr. Paulsen.

Chess Club: The Chess Club has general meetings twice a month. Students also meet on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday in the cafeteria to practice play from 7:45 to 8:15 a.m. Over 140 students are involved in monthly tournaments. The Chess Club is sponsored by Mr. Jones.

Future Homemakers of America: The FHA meets once a month. They hosted a Christmas party at The Children's Home, where they served refreshments, and presented the children with toy filled stockings. They provided entertainment with guitar playing and singing. The FHA also honor the Jordan teachers with an Appreciation Tea and present them with candy roses. Ms. Bayless is the club sponsor.

Intramurals:Intramural sports are sponsored by Coach Barbara Krueger and Coach Nikki Kellman-Medina. Students participate after school. Soccer events have recently finished and volleyball will begin on March 19th.

Literary Magazine: The Magazine is sponsored by Ms. Medina, Ms. Major, Ms. Davila, and Ms. Diaz. Entries are being accepted.

National Junior Honor Society: The Jordan NJHS, sponsored by Ms. Sanchez, worked on a most rewarding service project. It involved tape recording 98 children's books and presenting them to Ed Cody Elementary students. Honor Society members had reading buddies that they shared stories and gifts with at the end of the project. The books and recordings will be kept in a listening center at the elementary school for all students to enjoy.

The Jordan Book Club: The Book Club, sponsored by Ms. Martinez and Ms. Holmes, meets once a month. They are reading about different women in history. They will welcome a speaker later in March. Multicultural Celebrations will be their reading theme during the month of April.

The Social Studies Club: The purpose of the club is to promote awareness of social, political, and historical events and to provide opportunities for students to participate in school and community service. The club will commemorate Women in History and have a special presentation for a week during morning announcements. Other upcoming events will be a Fiesta Trivia and Fiesta Bake Sale during the month of April. A field trip is also planned to the Navarro House and the Governor's Palace. Ms. Weaker is the club sponsor.

Student Council: The club meets once a month. Candygrams were sold during February for Valentine's Day. Plans are being made for the Spring Dance and Teacher Appreciation Week. The Student Council uses fund raising money to buy a gift for the school every year.

Tennis Club: Students meet Monday through Thursday, after school. They have been involved in 5 dual matches and 4 tournaments. Four matches were won. The Lady Jaguar Team ended up in first place in the 8th Grade Doubles, at the District Tournament. Ms. Bayless is our tennis coach and sponsor.
