Jordan's ESL teacher is Ms. Bravo-Blake. ESL is available to any student who is not yet proficient in the English and whose native language is not English. This is determined by the Language Assessment Survey which is completed when a child is enrolled in the District.
Jordan Middle School ESL classes serve students from many different countries. The students are involved in many multicultural activities to learn about life in the United States. They also celebrate their diverse cultural backgrounds.
The ESL curriculum includes techniques and approaches for developmental language learning based on the current research in second language acquisition and focuses on improving language skills through listening, speaking, and writing activities. The ESL teacher reinforces key concepts and vocabulary taught in the content area classes and also serves as a liaison for students as they adjust to their new school, community, and culture.
