Industrial Technology

At Jordan Middle School, we have three basic courses in our Industrial Technology Program.

Drafting/Photography: Mr. Jerry Martin teaches students the basics of drafting through both traditional methods and also through the use of Computer Aided Design (CAD) programs. Photography allows the students to learn the proper use of the 35 mm camera; how to select correct aperture settings, shutter speed, film speed, etc. Additionally, the students learn basic darkroom procedures including how to develop a roll of film and the proper use of enlargers and chemical processing while developing black and white prints from negatives.

Sheet Metals/Welding: Mr. Steve Scales teaches composition, fabrication and assembly of various types of metals. Introduction to robotics and laser technology are a part of the current curriculum. Students also learn to design and construct bridges and then test them for adequate engineered strength. Also, included is a unit on rocketry that allows students to design and build their own rockets and then fly them.

Woods: Mr. Bill Stitler teaches students the proper use of the most common hand tools, power tools, and machines associated with woodworking. Demonstrations and the actual work on individual projects help the students to grasp a better understanding of work with various types of woods. Students learn how to work both as an individual and as a part of a team when learning production methods. This program also offers a unit on plastics.
