Veterans Day 2009
BLE is the Place to Be: A Patriotic Tribute
Lewis Elementary celebrated Veterans Day with a moving tribute as the AFJROTC Honor Guard from John Paul Stevens HS
led off each assembly. Lewis Choir and LEO groups sang patriotic songs. Honored guests included Mr. Bob Lewis, School
Namesake, Mr. George Lynn Britton, NISD School Board Member, Lt. Colonel Peter J. Godwin, USAF, Ret., and veterans
from the community. Lt. Col. Godwin is the Senior Aerospace Science Instructor for TX-20051 AFJROTC at John Paul
Stevens High School. He inspired the Lewis students with a heartfelt speech about the meaning of Veterans Day. The
Lewis Student Council greeted guests and Garret Reger along with, Angel Bierce hosted the program. Lewis students
and staff filled the hallways with tributes to Veterans. Awards were given for the "What My Country Means to Me"
art and writing contests. Nathaniel Cardenas won the art contest and Kaitlyn Stanley won the essay contest. What
an honor for the students of Bob Lewis to have this personal opportunity to express their appreciation to the veterans
of their community!
