Cockroaches Arrive at Lewis Elementary

Katie Speck, author of Maybelle in My Soup, visited the 3rd, 4th and 5th graders at Lewis on September 17, 2009. The students were inspired by the stories she shared and the vocabulary she used. Ms. Speck talked about how it is hard to try new things, but if you don't try, you will never learn and grow. Students have written thank you letters to Ms. Speck. Edna, a 4th grade student from Mrs. Wilkinson's class says, "My favorite part was when you (Katie Speck) said "crepuscule", that's a weird word." Crepuscule means twilight. Alyssa, also a student from Mrs. Wilkinson's class, states, "I can't wait to see and read your next book!" ................See related story in NISD's Inside Northside Weekly
