Bob Lewis Elementary School is located in northwest San Antonio. Lewis opened its doors with 625 students and 55 staff members in August 2001. Lewis sits on 17.46 acres of land and was built as a result of the bond issue approved by voters in 1998. Lewis was the 45th elementary school to be built in Northside ISD. The school is named for Mr. Bob Lewis, a retired teacher.
This year Lewis has over 800 students. The staff has also grown to over 91 administrators, other professional staff, teachers, assistants, custodians, and cafeteria workers. An addition was added to the school in 2006 with 9 new classrooms. The school has an in-house media distribution system. Each classrom has a mounted projector and most have interactive white boards. During the 2011-2012 school year the staff was provided with labtop computers and each classroom received two student stations. There are two computer labs. All the computers are connected to the internet either through cabling or WiFi.
Due to the high number of military families in our community, Lewis Elementary was included in a Department of Defense military grant over a six year period. Improvements to our campus such as Promethean Boards, Elmo projection technology, and funds for extensive after school Robotics program and additional technology hardware are just some of the many benefits garnered from the grant.
