Americans and Their Culture
Part 1: Locate the following website http://www.germantown.k12.il.us/html/intro.html. This website will present to you a vast amount of information on each of the Native American cultures in the United States. The cultures of Native Americans are as follows:
The Northwest Culture
The Plains Culture
The Woodlands Culture
The Southwest Culture
The California-Intermountain Culture
Answer the questions below for your Native American group:
· Which tribes made up your specific culture?
· What were their homes like?
· What were some of the expectations of the children?
· What was daily life like?
· Name 5 other important facts about your culture in general.
Part 2. Research each of the specific Native Americans listed in your culture using the following website: www.yahooligians.com
Type in the search: Native American tribes
· Locate 10 interesting facts about each of the tribe( ex. Who were their enemies, how did they protect themselves, etc. )
Part 3. Using the blank U.S. map, color the region in which your culture of Native Americans lives. You may use the website to locate a map that may help you http://www.germantown.k12.il.us/html/intro.html.
Part 4: Read some of the Native American legends on the website http://www.germantown.k12.il.us/html/intro.html. With your group, develop a play in which you act out the legend with your group. You may develop props and dress up. Have fun and be creative.
Part 5: Using the above website, read about another Native American culture. Using a Venn Diagram, compare and contrast the two cultures using Inspiration. Your teacher will help you with Inspiration.
Part 6: Create a poster(1) on your culture of Native Americans. This poster should be creative and have Only Important/ Interesting Facts about your Native Americans.
Part 7: Create a symbolic representation or model of your culture of Native Americans. For example, you may create a model of your groups of Native Americans homes, head wear, clothes, etc. Use your imagination.
Part 8: Each person in your group will write a 1 page summary of all the interesting information that you have learned about your Native American group.
