Miss Palomares has been a teacher in Northside for eight years. She is a seasoned veteran teacher. Her assignment allows her to interact personally with every staff member on campus. Her students are assigned to her because they have behavior issues and are usually emotionally disturbed. She goes out of her way to ensure that her students are treated compassionately and challenged. She has participated in the AIM program which prepares and introduces educators to administrative duties. Due to this interest, Miss Palomares often seeks additional duties which will prepare her for administration. She accepts and excels at these additional duties. She has served as coordinator for a School Beautification Project, as coordinator for Recycling Project and served as the United Way Representative. She has personally increased the school morale through her efforts as chainnan of the Hospitality Committee. She organized a staff garage sale in order to offset the cost of a staff Christmas Party that was a formal buffet held at the Menger Hotel Ballroom. She serves as a mentor for students and as a parent partner as well as serving as a tutor after school. She has served as a cooperating teacher for students who are receiving a Master's in special education. She serves as an E-Sped trainer on campus. She is a team member of the Crisis Prevention Intervention Program.
Miss Palomares has created lessons and instructed various district personnel to increase student achievement. She can be counted upon to share her expertise and knowledge with behavior problems when needed. She created "Writing with Character Program" to increase writing skills of students as well as to extend our character education. She has organized in-services and training for teachers in the area of character education, social skills, behavior management, and staff motivation. She has assisted district behavior specialists during the Summer Institute to teach social skills in the special education classrooms. She has developed and implemented stress management in-services for parents, students, and teachers in and out of district. She implemented a schoolwide character education model. She developed lessons in area of goal setting and character education to align with standards in the area of writing, reading, math. and technology. She has been nominated previously as teacher of the year and has served as a S. T .A.R. Teacher- Model for Special Education Classrooms. She developed a business partnership with Krispy Kreme, Chili's, Sea World, and Cielo Vista Movie Theater. Miss Palomares serves as a model for effective leadership in the profession.
Miss Palomares' classroom has varied levels of ages and educational needs. She effectively monitors and adapts instruction as needed as well as providing individualized instruction for her students. Her students are actively engaged in their studies and her room may have six students working on six different levels and subjects while being individually addressed by the teacher. She has excellent behavior management skills. Her students are consistently involved in higher order learning skills and strategies. She is a very effective teacher.
Miss Palomares has developed community service projects for fourth and fIfth grade students with local veterans and a local nursing home. She has developed business partnerships for incentives for her students and teachers. She has utilized community businesses to stress the importance of character education to the students. She serves as a resource fOr parents with behavior questions. She is an active participant in a woman's devotional group. She has given in-services to parents with special needs children at the Methodist Hospital.
Miss
Palomares consistently exhibits a positive attitude which contributes to a
positive school environment. She has excellent skills working with challenged
students and utilizes her excellent communication skills to keep parents informed
and active. Bob Lewis Elementary is fortunate to have Miss Palomares as a
teacher for our students, a motivator for our staff, and as a resource for
our community.
