In January 2002, the faculty and staff of Lewis Elementary selected Mrs. Lila Owens the Bob Lewis Elementary School Teacher of the Year. Her creativity and enthusiasm for art are apparent from the moment visitors walk into the school. She has devoted many hours creating displays of student artwork in the hallways, library, and office of our school.

Mrs. Owens' favorite artist is Eric Carle, who has written many famous children's books. She likes the way he uses paint and creates collages. Eric Carle creates his own papers and so does Mrs. Owens! Mrs. Owens also likes to have a messy art room.

Mrs. Owens and her husband have five children who keep them very busy! Mrs. Owens enjoys going to their sporting events and school activities. Three of her children are away at college and two attend Northside schools.

Mrs. Owens joined the Lewis staff after teaching at Villareal Elementary for eleven years.
