San Antonio is Dr. Arteaga's hometown. She received both her Bachelors and Masters from St. Mary's University. It was over ten years ago that she started her career in education. At the early stages, her experiences included substituting for Northside and teaching physical education for St. James Catholic School.

As a public school teacher, she has enjoyed teaching first grade, third grade, and fourth grade. Dr. Arteaga has worked with first/second grade bilingual students as a Reading Specialist and kinder through fifth grade students as a Gifted and Talented Specialist.

At the district level in Northside, she was elected to serve as the third through fifth grade representative for teachers on the Northside Education Improvement Council and held the position of North Area STEPS Director.
