Task 1

Welcome to Our Changing World!
In this first activity, you will learn some new vocabulary words to help you understand the rest of the unit better. Read all of the steps first, then go back and start the activity. All of the Web sites will open in new windows so that you can come back to this Web site easily to read directions along the way.

1	First click this link to read and hear the vocabulary words and their definitions - Plate Tectonics and Continental Drift Vocabulary.
2	Your back! I hope you were able to understand all those words! Next, you will visit an Internet site that will let you practice learning your new words and their definitions. Click this link to visit the site - Plate Tectonics and Continental Drift Vocabulary Activities. (This site will open in a new window so that you can come back here easily to reread directions - just click on the button at the bottom of your screen called Task 1.)
3	Use the Flashcards game to practice the vocabulary definitions. Read the directions and go through the desk of 20 cards by reading each one, clicking on it to flip it over and see the word, then clicking on the "Try again later" button. Once you have gone through the deck once, now try to guess each word without looking at it first. When you know the word that matches the definition without looking first, click the "Remove card" button and try the next one. If you can't get one, click the "Try again later" button and go on to the next card. You are finished when you have removed all of the cards from the deck.
4	Now play the Matching, Concentration, and Word Search games to practice the vocabulary definitions until you feel you know all the words really well.
