Content Area and Grade Level

Science/Social Studies/Language Arts
3-5th grade

Implementation Overview

Students will work in groups of three in a single classroom over a period of 2/3 weeks.  Teachers may want to take the whole class to a computer lab several times during the project, but groups should also be allowed to work independently in the classroom during choice or center time.

Resources Needed

This lesson is appropriate for one teacher to implement in his/her regular classroom.  At times when the whole class is working in the lab, a technology assistant or computer literate parent would be helpful because groups will be at different levels.

Entry Level Skills and Knowledge

Students and teachers need to have basic computer skills and Internet experience.

Evaluation

See attached rubric - can be printed out for immediate use.

Possible Variations

This web quest involves student choice for projects.  Teacher may want to assign particular projects to groups so that all areas are covered.

Conclusion

This lesson is to enhance the students knowledge of endangered ocean animals and give them the resources to voice their opinion through various media.
