Students enrolled in the English PreAP and Advanced Placement classes at John Marshall High School for 2008-2009 are required to read novels as specified by the level they will enter in August. The pre-course requirement offers an opportunity for enrichment through the study of eight masterworks. Since summer reading is an integral part of the PreAP/Advanced Placement Program and a vehicle for beginning a rich, academic program the first days of school, students without the requisite pre-course reading will be at a serious disadvantage and will be responsible for both pre-course reading and new assignments at the beginning of the school year. Students are encouraged to purchase their own books. They may also check out the books from local libraries or come to JMHS by appointment with the English Department coordinator during the summer to check out books. Be advised, however, that some of the selections are on order and will not be available at JMHS until late summer.
