David DyerDavid Dyer joined the Marshall faculty in 1999 year as Associate Conductor, bringing years of experience and expertise. He assumed the Head Director position in May of 2004. Prior to coming to Marshall , David served as Director of Vocal Music at Taft High School. David's groups received consistent UIL Sweepstakes and first division honors, and "Best In Class" awards at numerous choral festivals. His choirs have been featured at ACDA and at the TMEA All-State Convention in 1991, 1998, and 1999. Under his direction, Marshall ’s vocal jazz group performed in New York City for the International Association of Jazz Educators.

 

David received his Bachelor of Music Education degree from Southwest Texas State University , where he also completed his Master's degree in Choral Conducting, both under the direction of Dr. Kenneth Fulton. He has pursued further studies with Dr. John Silantien at the University of Texas at San Antonio and with Leon Thurman of the Voice Care Institute.

 

David's professional affiliations include TMEA, TCDA, TMAA, IAJE and ACDA. He has served as Chairman and Secretary for the TMEA Region XI Vocal Division, and enjoys working as a clinician, adjudicator, and consultant. He was selected as Taft High School “Teacher of the Year” and was chosen to conduct the annual Grammy in the Schools vocal jazz ensemble at the University of Texas , Austin .

 

David and his wife Patty have two children, Matthew and Sarah, and the foursome performs at local civic and church functions as a bluegrass/gospel band.
