D.J. Vila is thrilled to return to her hometown of San Antonio, TX and resume her teaching career with the vocal music department of Marshall High School. Mrs. Vila holds a bachelor's degree in Music Education from Abilene Christian University and served as the assistant choir director at Abilene High School for two years before deciding to move to New York City. In New York she was the general music teacher and choral director of Rice High School, an all boy's Catholic school located in the heart of Harlem. Her choir consistently scored well at choral competitions and was loved by the school and local community.
Mrs. Vila is also a proud member of Actor's Equity, the professional union of theatrical performers, and has performed in numerous musical theatre productions. Highlights from her performing career include the world premiere of the opera Warrior Sisters, Jekyll and Hyde at the Carousel Dinner Theatre in Akron, Ohio, and the Broadway national tour of Susan Stroman's revival of The Music Man, where she understudied the lead role of Marion Paroo.
