Congratulations to all of our Seniors! It is that time when many of you are making college decisions. To assist in this effort I have added this page to your website to provide you with scholarship opportunities. Check this page regularly for updates and new scholarship information.
Star Stepper Scholarship Requirements:
Purpose:
To recognize senior John Marshall High School Star Steppers accomplishments during their tenure on the team and to celebrate individual contributions to the John Marshall community.
Amount of Award:
The amount will vary each year. The scholarship is a reimbursable award for tuition and/or books.
Application Requirements:
A 250 word Essay- "What being a Star Stepper means to me"
Resume: A detailed account of accomplishments; as a Star Stepper, other organization affiliations, leadership positions and community service.
Review Process:
The scholarship committee comprised of Star Stepper booster parent volunteers (non-senior parents) and Mrs. Gardner-Shore, will review and rate the scholarship applications. The scholarship will be awarded at the Ramblerette Banquet.
Additional Information:
The scholarship is valid for one year from the date of award. If not used within one year, recipient forfeits the scholarship.
Proof of enrollment in an academically accredited course, trade school or other career enhancing course is required prior to release of funds.
Scholarship award will be sent to the Star Stepper school of choice and will appear as a credit on her account.

The common application can be downloaded or completed on-line. After completing on-line, the application can be copied and/or reused for applying to other colleges in Texas. |
| www.fafsa.ed.gov | The "Free Application for Federal Student Aid" (FAFSA) must be completed by all students/families who will be applying for federal financial aid to assist in paying for college expenses. This form is administered by federal government and will be used to determine eligibility, expected family contributions, etc. Most institutions require submission of the FAFSA before making any financial aid awards. It is best to download and file this form as early in the calendar year as possible, as financial aid is typically awarded in the first five months of the year for students planning to enroll in college during the Fall semester. |
| www.fastweb.com | FastWeb is a free search engine that can be used to locate financial aid (Scholarships and Grants) your student may be eligible to obtain. The site requires registration and allows users to search for financial aid that fits their particular need. Searches for colleges is also provided. After registering and providing selected personal information, FastWeb will send emails on a regular basis to alert you of potential awards your student may wish to apply for. Recommendation: Because of the volume of email that this registration is likely to generate, I suggest you create a special email address to use specifically for the FastWeb and other financial aid sites. |

In additional to its statutory responsibility to collect information on all public and most private institutions in Texas, the THECB routinely issues reports on higher education trends and develops plans to enhance education of the Texas population. The THECB website provides automated links to most institutions in Texas and to various financial aid sites. |

It was developed in response to the THECB's report "Closing the GAPS by 2015", an effort to enroll an additional 300,000 students in higher education by the year 2015. |
| www.hhloans.com | This site provides information on the Hinson-Hazlewood College Student Loans offered though the College Access Loan (CAL) program in Texas. It provides an overview of the loans and other financial aid available to students in Texas. Applications are available for students/families wishing to apply for loans. |
