Welcome to Advanced Placement World History. For some of you, this is your first AP course. Although it is challenging, if you approach the class with the right attitude and are willing to put forth a strong work ethic, you will be successful.

Summer Assignment: The purpose of the following assignment is to give you a jump start on the curriculum. It will count as part of your first six weeks grade. All information can be found in various textbooks as well as on the following web sites.

Part I: World Map
Label and memorize the attached world map. Expect a quiz, the first week of school

Part II- GRAPES Chart
For each of the five ancient civilizations (Egypt, Mesopotamia, Indus, Huang He, and Olmecs), complete the GRAPES
chart explaining the differences and commonalities in geography, religion, accomplishments, economic system, and social structure .

Part III- Flash Cards
Create flash cards for the provided people, terms, and concepts. These items will be on the first exam

Part IV- General Vocabulary Terms
These are terms you will see through out the social studies AP program. Expect to have quiz over the terms your first week of school.

Extra Credit Assignment-This is not mandatory, but highly recommended
