OBJECTIVE:

In the coming week, we will begin reading Of Mice and Men. This novel contains many references to the topics below. In order to fully understand the novel, its themes, its relevance to our country, and its significance, the terms below must be investigated and understood.

 

Task 1:

GREAT DEPRESSION

Use the following websites to research the Great Depression and answer the following questions. You MUST use more than one site to confirm your findings are true.

2. Who was president at the time of the depression?
3. What caused it?
4. What was the result of it?

Once you have gathered your information, open up Inspiration and create an outline to show how the events took place. Use pictures to represent what happened at that time. Fit your outline on to one page. Be sure to include a header with your name and class period. Save your project in an appropriate place and print out. Click here for a sample in Inspiration.

 

Task 2:

Dust Bowl , Migrant Workers, American Dream, & John Steinbeck

Use the following websites to research the above topics and answer the following questions. You MUST use more than one site to confirm your findings are true.

 

1. When did the Dust Bowl occur?
2. Why was it called the Dust Bowl?
3. What was the economy like?
4. What affect did the Dust Bowl have on farmers?
5. What is significant about the date April 14, 1935?
6. What are migrant workers?
7. What is the American Dream?
8. Is the American Dream then and the American Dream now the same? Why or why not?
9. Where is John Steinbeck from?
10. Name three other books Steinbeck has written.

Once you have gathered your information, open up PowerPoint and create a slide show using your information. You should have 9 slides total including a title slide and a credit slide. BE CREATIVE. Include pictures. Save your project in an appropriate place. Click here for printing instructions.
