Objective:  The student will use the internet to gather information about one drug of abuse.  The student will then report their findings to the class as a PowerPoint.
 
The major categories of drugs are stimulants, depressants, hallucinogens, and opiates (or narcotics), inhalants, and marijuana.  Each student will be assigned one drug to report on.

 


PROCEDURE

Create a folder in your class file, labeled with your name. In this folder, you will save your PowerPoint and the information you have researched. You are required to save EVERYTHING you do for this project.
 
TEACHER RECOMMENDATION:
·        MAKE SURE YOU COPY AND PASTE YOUR URL ADDRESS FOR EACH PIECE OF INFORMATION YOU USE!  SERIOUS POINT DEDUCTIONS WILL RESULT IF YOU FAIL TO APPROPRIATELY CITE YOUR WORK!!!
·        If you place your citation on your bibliography slide, immediately after use use text or a picture from a website, this will make your citations much easier!
·        Opening several internet explorer windows at the same time may be helpful to you.
 
  1. Gather the following information for your report. Package your report into a PowerPoint presentation (12+ slides). The following headings are required for your report.
    1. Title slide, including the drug name
    2. Classification
    3. What does it look like?
    4. How is it taken?
    5. Physical effects - short term
    6. Physical effects - long term
    7. Is it physically addictive?
    8. Psychological effects - short term
    9. Psychological effects - long term
    10. Is it psychologically addictive?
    11. Rehabilitation issues(available programs/facilities, difficulty to break addiction, etc.)
    12. Legal issues (statistics, prevalence, prison sentences, etc.)
    13. Bibliography/resources
