The Internet is a great source of information. You will probably use the Internet at school this year to do a research project. Whenever you borrow information from a Web site, a book, an encyclopedia, or any other source, you must write it down to show other people where you found your information. You can write all the sources you used in a list called a bibliography. It is important to write down your sources so that you give credit to everyone whose work you borrowed. Borrowing information without telling others where you found it is like stealing the information from the author.

When you do a research project, your teacher will give you directions on how to write a bibliography. Here is an example of how you might write your sources.

Book: Landau, Elaine. Tropical Forest Mammals. New York: Children's Press, 1996.
Encyclopedia: Peters, Charles M."Rain Forest." World Book Encyclopedia, 2000, v. 16, p.126
