Creating a Hot List

Samples (Part 3):

A hot list is simply a list of Web sites for students to use as a resource.  It saves time by eliminating the need for students to search for appropriate sites. A hot list does not always promote higher level thinking.  However, after using a hot list, students could engage in a higher level thinking activity.  For example, after reading the information in the President's Day hot list, students could create a Venn Diagram to compare George Washington to Abraham Lincoln.  Take time to look at each of the following samples of hot lists created by other teachers.

South America
Stephen F. Austin
Rainforest
Frogs
Amazing Spiders
Matter
Egyptian Art
President's Day

Many other hot lists can be found at the Region 20 Web site.

Create a Hot List (Part 4):

Now, you are ready to make your own hot list.  First, choose a topic for your students to research. Spend time searching for sites that are appropriate and useful for your students.  Write down the Web address for each site and a brief description of its content.

Then, you can create your hot list.  Click here for printable directions. You can print more detailed directions, if you need help using Netscape composer.
