Small Group Counseling

 

Three types of small group counseling are offered for McDermott students. The first type, developmental groups, addresses normal developmental tasks and topics such as social skills, time management, or organizational skills. **We emphasize to students and parents that these groups are for everyone, and participation does not indicate a problem.

 

The second type of small group counseling, special concerns groups, focuses on specific needs. These group sessions are attended by students that share a common concern. Some examples of participants for these groups might be students whose parents are separated or divorced, students who have to cope with the illness or death of a family member, or students with other specific needs.

Building Self Confidence
Substance Abuse in Families

Understanding ADD/ADHD
Coping with Stress

 

The third type of small group counseling, training groups, focuses on working with students to gain skills for application in special areas such as:
