History of Pat Neff Middle School
Because of continued growth in the late 1950's, it became obvious
to Northside ISD officials that a junior high school campus was necessary.
Until this
time, Northside Junior High School was included with the Northside High School
campus, which then became John Marshall High School.
Thus in 1961, Pat Neff Junior High (named after former Governor
Pat Morris Neff) became Northside's first junior high to occupy
its own campus. With a price tag of $680,000, our school opened
to approximately 650 students. Originally there were 23 classrooms
and many other features including a library, a band room, and a
cafetorium. All classrooms were generously equipped with many windows
that could be opened to allow in cool breezes on the warm days
(before the buildings were air conditioned).
