The Northside Young Astronauts Stargazing Event scheduled for Friday, Feb. 27, at Ward Elementary School has been rescheduled to Thursday, April 23 due to a forecast of inclement weather.

Last night, Trustees discussed and took action on several items: held a public hearing on the District’s Texas Academic Performance Report (TAPR), discussed processes for naming three new schools, and appointed four campus administrators and one Central Office position.

This year Holmes HS celebrated its 50th anniversary with a community-wide celebration that included testimonials from alumni, special performances by current students, and a reception catered by the Holmes HS culinary students. It was event worthy of a school that has served as a cornerstone in the community for five decades.

The Northside ISD School Board called an election for four Trustee positions to be held on Saturday, May 9, 2015. Seats up for election are Single Member Districts 1 through 4, currently held by George Lynn Britton, Jr., Bennie L. Cole, M’Lissa M. Chumbley, and Robert Blount, Jr., respectively.

The San Antonio Rampage Hockey players know how to use a stick to reach their goals. That’s one of the reasons for their “Stick with Reading” initiative where team members visit local elementary schools to recognize students who have met their reading goals. Northside ISD is holding a Custodial/Maintenance Job Fair to fill more than 60 fulltime positions with benefits for custodians, assistant head custodians, head custodians, and maintenance positions.

In a bold move to better prepare students for studies beyond high school, the Northside ISD Board of Trustees approved $308,000 to pay for the SAT college entrance exam to be offered to all of NISD’s juniors. The test will be administered on Wednesday, April 15.  A potential 7,000+ juniors would be tested.
