The newest addition to the NISD athletic facilities, thanks to the voters in Bond 2001, is The Northside Natatorium, located at the Farris Athletics Complex adjacent to DeZavala Road and Loop 1604. It is located across the street from Stinson Middle School and close to the new Brandeis High School which is currently under construction.
An Open House will be held Friday, Oct. 13 from 3:30-4:30 pm. The public is invited to attend.
The facility is comprised of two buildings: a 38,000 square-foot indoor pool facility with an eight-lane indoor competition pool. The connecting ancillary building contains the men’s and women’s locker rooms, restrooms, coaches offices, meeting/exercise classrooms, and weight room.
The pool building can accommodate about 800 spectators. The pool is a stainless steel pool with a PVC liner that is unique to the South Texas area. It is used for daily practices by Taft, Clark, Marshall and O’Connor high schools, as well as for community swimming lessons for pre-school through age 13. It is also used by the Club Swimming program in the evening.
“We are extremely proud to have this beautiful facility join its fellow Northside Aquatics Center on Culebra Road in offering both the students and community two state-of-the-art swim and athletic facilities,” says Dr. John Folks, superintendent. “NISD strives to offer a well-balanced education and opportunities for students including athletics and extra-curricular activities, and we feel that these facilities will allow us to do that as the District continues to grow.”
