Thirteen Northside ISD schools were named “The Best Public Schools” in the state by Texas Monthly.

The magazine listed the state’s top 574 schools in its December 2006 issue. There are about 7,460 public schools in Texas.

Three elementary, six middle and four high schools in Northside made the list:

  • Burke Elementary School
  • Leon Springs Elementary School
  • Linton Elementary School
  • Connally Middle School
  • Hobby Middle School
  • Jones Middle School
  • Rudder Middle School
  • Stinson Middle School
  • Sul Ross Middle School
  • Clark High School
  • Health Careers High School
  • O’Connor High School
  • Warren High School

To find the state’s top-performing schools, the Austin-based National Center for Educational Accountability (formerly Just for the Kids) conducted an analysis to measure how well students did on reading, writing, math, science and social studies standardized tests. Each school’s demographics were taken into account.

A complete list of the schools that made the list and an explanation of the analysis can be found at www.texasmonthly.com.
