O’Connor High School becomes first school in nation to offer "educational kiosk"

O'Connor High School students now have a world of college and career information at their fingertips via an "educational kiosk."

The high school is the first in the nation to receive the interactive, touch-screen kiosk, developed by ikiosksolutions (IKS) and designed by DynaTouch. Both companies are based in San Antonio.

"The mission of the campaign is to provide vital, interactive academic and career information to high school students and others on higher education admission, financial aid, examination requirements, student incentives, along with career and employment opportunities," said A.R. "Tony" Alvarez, CEO of IKS and developer of the kiosk program.

The goal of the kiosk program is to help students graduate and arm them with knowledge about career options so that they can become successful members of the community.

Don Schmidt, Assistant Superintendent for Student Services, said the kiosk will augment the array of career counseling services already offered by the District.

"We are so lucky to be the first in the nation to utilize this innovative new tool," Schmidt said. "It's very easy to use, and it's geared directly toward students."

High schools throughout San Antonio and Texas are slated to receive the educational kiosks soon. The program is expected to be expanded to California, New Mexico, Nevada, Arizona, and Florida over the next five years.

Schools do not have to pay for the kiosks. Advertisements, shown on a screen above the kiosk, will cover equipment and operational costs. School districts that have the kiosks will vet all advertisements.
