Public hearings to review attendance zone for new middle school
NISD Communications Department
March 5, 2008
The Northside School Boundary Advisory Committee (SBAC) will hold two public hearings March 10 to gather input and review proposed boundaries for "Kyle Seale Parkway area" Middle School.

The proposal, which includes associated boundary changes at existing schools, would affect the attendance zones for Jefferson, Rawlinson, Rudder, and Stinson middle schools.

The first hearing, for the associated boundary changes, will begin at 6 p.m. in the library at Stinson Middle School, 13200 Skyhawk. Under the proposed plan, some students in the Rawlinson and Rudder attendance zones would be moved to Stinson. Community members who would like to speak at the hearing should sign up at 5:45 p.m.

The second hearing will begin at 7 p.m. in the Stinson Middle School cafeteria. Under the proposed plan, students from Jefferson, Rawlinson, and Stinson would be moved to the new middle school. Those who want to speak can sign up beginning at 6:45 p.m.

The District has mailed a letter to all families who would be affected by the proposed attendance zone changes.

"Overcrowding in NISD is a problem across the District," said Kay Franklin, Deputy Superintendent for Administration. "And, boundary changes are a way to allow schools to operate efficiently, while also populating new schools built to handle the growth."

"Kyle Seale Parkway area" Middle School will open in August 2009 with about 1,300 students and relieve overcrowding at Rawlinson, Stinson, and Jefferson. The District's 17th middle school is funded by School Bond 2007 and will be named in April by the Board of Trustees.

Members of the SBAC are parents who represent schools throughout the District. They will make a recommendation to the Board of Trustees, which ultimately will approve the attendance boundaries for the middle school.
