The third annual Brennan High School Leadership Conference was held recently with 82 students representing the presidents and captains of various clubs, teams, and organizations from across the campus attending.
Sponsored primarily by the Career and Technology Education (CATE) department, the event included special guest speakers Chef Johnny Hernandez who spoke on “leading in the community:” LTG Richardo S. Sanchez, Chief Executive Officer of Operational Technologies, speaking on “becoming and building leaders;” Mary McBeth, NISD Academic Technology Specialist, “Today’s Technology and You;” and Katie Bazzani, K-12 Staff Development Specialist for NISD; “Leadership Styles.”
The conference was coordinated by CATE Department Coordinator Gina Castillo, and CATE teacher Jennifer Benavides. Assisting were the Culinary Arts students who prepared breakfast, lunch, and snacks for participants; and the entire CATE department who assisted with decorations, graphics, sound, and photography.
After a lot of collaboration, the students rallied behind the idea of supporting one another’s team or event to build on the cohesiveness that resulted from the conference. Pictured are some of the students presenting their ideas from the conference to their fellow students.
