Northside teaching staff is 100 percent highly qualified

The federal education law, known as No Child Left Behind, requires that all teachers of core subjects in all public schools must be highly qualified, meaning they hold a bachelor's degree and state certification in the subject area they are teaching.

Core subjects identified by NCLB include reading/language arts, math, civics and government, economics, geography, science, history, fine arts (music, art, dance and theater), and international languages.

In Texas, districts must report the number of highly qualified teachers to the Texas Education Agency at the beginning of each school year. In Northside, 100 percent of teachers meet the federal highly qualified requirements, and all teachers are certified to teach under state law.

Since the highly qualified requirement was established for the 2002-03 school year, Northside administrators have worked to make sure all teachers comply with the federal law.
