Art students team up to paint mural at Zachry
There is a new creation at Zachry Middle School. Art teacher Alfonso Espronceda and his fourth period, eighth grade art students created a mural to capture the essence of Zachry. Hayden Sherman is responsible for the wolverine, Albert Ybarra the text, and Jonathon Hernandez the paws. Other students contributed to ideas for symbols that represented core subjects, electives, and extracurricular activities. This is the first time a wall mural has been created at Zachry and will be a lasting legacy to be enjoyed for all the years to come.

Math rocks at Steubing Stuebing Elementary students were treated to a Math Rocks concert at the end of the school year as a reward for learning their math facts.
Students in grades one through five worked all year to addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. They all used the fast facts program available on the school computers.
In order to attend the concert students had to earn beginner, medium, advanced or expert status based on their time and score. All "experts" were rewarded with preferential seating, backstages passes, and autographs from the band.
Kids helping kids at Blattman
This past spring, Blattman third graders teamed up with kindergarteners during their Advisory Meetings and decided to collect books to donate to the Christus Santa Rosa Children's Hospital. The students collected more than 600 books to donate to the small library at Christus.
From start to finish, the students made flyers, collected, kept count, and encouraged each other. The students also labeled each book with care and a Blattman Black Bear Logo. They even arranged for a local celebrity, Miss Fiesta San Antonio 2009, Jessica Ramirez, her court, 1st Princess Haley Bergman, 2nd Princess Jaime Lalley, and her police and military escorts to deliver the books.
This year, other service projects included collecting needed items for the San Antonio State School, collecting new items for the Animal Defense League, and collecting stuffed animals for local firemen and police officers to give to children during times of tragedy.
