The NISD Board of Trustees Tuesday night unanimously approved a 10-year interlocal agreement with the City of San Antonio that sets procedures, requirements, and fee structures for school construction projects.

“This agreement has been in the negotiating stage for 14 months. It's a solid agreement that is good for all of San Antonio,” said Vernon Dunagin, Assistant Superintendent for Facilities & Operations. “We are so glad that the city and the various school systems have come to agreement.”

The agreement applies to 11 school districts in the city as well as Alamo Colleges, Trustee Randy Fields said.

“We appreciate the city collaborating with us and other school districts to make sure construction projects stay on schedule and are completed in a timely manner,” he said.

Superintendent John Folks expressed his sincere appreciation to San Antonio City Manager Sheryl Sculley and Rod Sanchez, Director of Planning and Development Services, for their efforts in making sure the interlocal agreement came to fruition.

“The city's Planning Department has been very responsive to the needs of school districts and ultimately to the needs of thousands of children,” Folks said.

San Antonio City Council is scheduled to vote on the interlocal agreement Aug. 20. The agreement would remain in effect through July 2019.
