A 250-member Citizens' Bond Committee began meeting last week to develop a proposal for a possible bond election, but all community members are welcome to follow the process by visiting
the bond committee web site.
All materials presented at bond committee meetings will be posted on the web site, which also includes a complete list of committee members.
Members of the bond committee represent 100 schools as well as neighborhood associations, community groups, businesses, and previous bond committees. The committee is expected to meet every Thursday night through Dec. 10 at the Northside Activity Center.
The committee is tasked with tackling the District's classroom and facility needs to develop a proposal for a possible bond election in May 2010. The committee's recommendation will be presented to the Board of Trustees, which ultimately will vote whether to call a bond election.
The bond committee web site is linked to the District's overall
Bond web site, which lists projects and budget status reports for bond elections dating back to 1998. The
status report for the 2007 bond recently has been updated.
NISD enrollment, currently at 91,578, is growing by about 3,000 students a year. The District opened four new schools this year and will open five new schools in August 2010, including three elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school.
