Northside ISD has launched a namesake web site so that students, staff, and community members can access information about all of the District's school namesakes.
NISD has long had a practice of naming schools after individuals. In fact, more than 80 percent of NISD campuses are named after people - from local educators to statewide leaders to U.S. Supreme Court justices.
Visit the
District's namesake web site to read the biographies of these important people. In addition, the biographies of all NISD namesakes also are posted on campus information pages. For example, the biography of Mary Michael is located on the bottom of
the campus information page for Michael Elementary School.
Naming a school after an individual is the highest honor Northside can give.
Board of Trustee members will consider naming elementary schools after the area or subdivision in which they are located or after individuals who have made significant contributions to education in Northside or the community.
Middle schools can be named after prominent state leaders who have made significant contributions to education.
And high schools are named after U.S. Supreme Court Justices.
The District currently is seeking a name for "Westwinds area" Elementary School, set to open in 2011 near Alamo Parkway and Culebra Road. Anyone wishing to submit a name can fill out the nomination form on the District's
Name A School web site.
