Rhodes students know pumpkins
As a culminating "hands-on" activity for a math unit, Christine Mascorro and her second grade students cut and carved pumpkins in the Rhodes School amphitheater.
The students, working with parent volunteers, were divided into groups of four or five to measure the width and length of the pumpkin, estimate the number of seeds in their pumpkin, and then verify the actual number by counting the seeds.
Pumpkin Day at Murnin has students counting seeds
Murnin third graders had "pumpkin day" in their classroom recently. Students completed various activities using their pumpkins. Pictured are students deciding a way to count how many seeds their pumpkin had.
Students tried to decide which pumpkins had more seeds, the big ones or the small ones? Students also used the numbers of their seeds to make a class graph. Teacher is Amanda Fraser.
What's the MATTER with that pumpkin?
Kindergarten students at Powell Elementary spent time exploring the Powell pumpkin patch where they were involved in activities that incorporated math and science. Mitch Hergert and Andrew Sandoval used magnifying glasses to get a close look at a pumpkin's properties of matter.
