Northside ISD has announced the H1N1 vaccination schedule for elementary school students under the age of 10 who need to receive a second dose of the vaccine.
A schedule is located on
the District's flu information web site.
A letter is being sent to all parents of students under the age of 10 who received a first dose and also is posted on the flu information web site. Parents must sign a
permission slip and complete a
questionnaire in order for their child to receive the vaccine.
Children under the age of 10 should receive a second shot roughly three to four weeks after receiving the first shot.
Parents must turn in a second permission slip in order for their children to receive the second shot.Child under 10 years of age are encouraged to get the second dose of the vaccine," said Don Schmidt, Assistant Superintendent for Student, Family & Community Services. "The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and San Antonio Metro Health are encouraging all to be vaccinated to be prepared for the third wave of H1N1."
If a child under the age of 10 receives a first dose at school but is unable to get the second dose, a parent can take the child to his or her physician or a public clinic to receive the second shot at a later date. The vaccine still will be effective even if more than four weeks have passed between the first and second shots, Schmidt said.
