Friends of Texas Public Schools today released an article about the benefits of athletic programs. The article looked at the attendance reports, discipline records, standardized test scores, and graduation rates of NISD athletes and dispels some myths about athletics funding.

The 17th annual Los Leones Student Arts Festival has something for everyone. This family-oriented event will be held Saturday, March 31 and includes an art show and sale with more than 2,500 pieces of high quality student artwork by NISD students.

Three veteran teachers were named District Educators of the Year at special celebrations held annually to honor teachers who give 100 percent when it comes to improving the lives of children. In addition, Northside’s Nominee for the 2012 Trinity Prize for Excellence in Teaching was announced.
Emily Swoboda, an English I Pre-AP teacher at Communications Arts High School, is a finalist for the prestigious H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards, spotlighting her as among the best educators in Texas.

The Board of Trustees Tuesday night voted unanimously to name the District's next middle school - set to open in August 2013 - after Superintendent John Folks. The Board also voted to name the District's fifth transportation station after former and longtime Transportation Director Mike McClung.
