Longtime educators selected as elementary school namesakes

The Northside Board of Trustees have selected three longtime local educators to serve as namesakes for new elementary schools that will open in the summer of 2008.

The schools were named for Peggy Carnahan, a master science teacher; Nora Forester, a pioneering reading specialist; and Evelyn Scarborough, an advocate for special education students. All three women are former Northside teachers who remain active in the NISD community.
Attendance boundaries for the schools have not yet been determined and will go through the approval process this fall. All three schools are being built with funds from Bond 2004.

Board policy states elementary schools may be named after individuals who have made significant educational contributions to the District or community.
