O’Connor HS Leadership Team to go to NYC.
The Gifted and Talented Leadership class team from O’Connor High School will soon be on their way to New York City after winning in the Junior Achievement Banks in Action Virtual Competition. Sean Hewitt, Karissa Lancaster, and Anatha Latshaw are the only students from Texas moving on to the JA Banks in Action North American competition where they will compete against nine other teams from across the U.S. and Canada. This face-to-face challenge will have these teams competing in a multi-round elimination event on July 16 and 17. A grant from Citigroup Foundation is paying for the all-expense trip for the team. Pam Hummel is the Gifted and Enrichment Campus Coordinator for O’Connor High School.
Ford “salutes” three NISD schools with grants for programs.
Three NISD schools/programs have received grants from Ford’s Salute to Education Community and School Fund Grant program, which is sponsored by Ford Motor Company and San Antonio’s Ford and Lincoln Mercury dealers. Receiving grants are the Deaf Dance Company at Braun Station Elementary School, the Musica and Danza Program at Cody Elementary School, and Author’s Day at Michael Elementary School. The grant checks will be formally presented on June 7 at 10 a.m. at Centro Cultural Azlan.

Passmore Elementary School is one of three San Antonio schools awarded money from the Laura Bush Foundation to purchase books for their library. In total, the Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries awarded more than $1.28 million in grants to school libraries across the country. Passmore Elementary will receive $5,000 to expand, update and diversify their library book collections.
