The City of San Antonio recently honored the District with the first Bill Sinkin Solar Energy Award. This prestigious award was presented as part of the City's Green Building Awards begun this year.
The award honors Northside ISD for its massive solar hot water project at the Aquatics Center. Eighty-two solar panels collect enough sunlight to save the District $26,000 per year in natural gas costs for heating the pool water.
The Aquatics Center is part of a District-wide automated energy management system that has saved the District more than $20 million in energy costs since 1990.
