Northside ISD will hold a job fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9 at the Northside Activity Center, 7001 Culebra Road, for an expected 200 openings in the Child Nutrition, Transportation, and Maintenance departments. The approximately 200 vacancies are expected due to staff retiring or resigning at the end of December.

Superintendent says the state of Texas has failed to adequately and equitably fund Texas public education. The Northside ISD Board of Trustees Tuesday night voted to join hundreds of school districts across the state in challenging the constitutionality of the current school funding system.

Northside ISD was officially formed in 1949, but the history of the school district goes back much further. A new permanent exhibit at the NISD Museum pays homage to the 12 pioneer schools that came together more than 60 years ago to create Northside Independent School District.

School trustees voted to honor the District’s heritage by naming the “Bandera Road north area” elementary school after one of the 12 original rural schools that joined together in 1949 to create Northside ISD. Funded by School Bond 2007, Los Reyes Elementary will be the only school to open in 2012. It is located north on Bandera Road, outside Loop 1604 in the Triana subdivision. The address is 10785 Triana Pkwy.

NISD Board President Karen Freeman has been elected to a three-year term on the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Board of Directors, representing TASB Region 20B. The region encompasses 15 counties in Central Texas and includes 50 school districts with 500 schools, 40,000 total staff (of which 20,000 are teachers), and over 300,000 students.
