TEXAS BLUEBONNET AWARDS
The Texas Bluebonnet Award was established in 1979. It's primary goal is to encourage Texas children in grades 3 - 5 to read and explore a variety of great literature. Here at Nichols, the 3rd-5th graders who read at least 10 of the Bluebonnet Nominees are eligible to vote for their favorite book in January. The results are sent to Austin, along with the other votes tabulated throughout Texas. The Bluebonnet award is given to the book with the most votes from the school children within the state of Texas. We also have a Bluebonnet celebration at Nichols for those students who will have read 20 of the Bluebonnet nominees by March.
