NWC hosts a Scholastic chess club and chess team. Meetings are on Tuesdays, generally twice a month, from 2:45-3:45. The purpose of the chess club is to build self-esteem and teach students to think through their thoughts before taking action. Students begin with a game of pawns and move on to a full game of chess. The chess team is selected from top players of the NWC school tournament in April for the following year. These students compete against other Northside schools in the spring.
