On May 22, 2005, Oak Hills Terrace was named a 2005 selection to the NASA Explorer School Program. Oak Hills Terrace was one of 50 schools nationwide to receive this honor. The announcement was carried live on NASA TV, and included a message from Sergei Krikalev and John Phillips aboard the International Space Station.

In July 2005, four teachers from Oak Hills Terrace went to Johnson SpaceCenterto start planning for this year's activities, and to learn more about NASA resources.

NASA Explorer Schools is a partnership between the schools selected and NASA to promote careers and education in the areas of science, technology, engineering, mathematics and geography.
