Questions and Answers

Q. Where does the money come from for the Learning Tree?

A. It is part of a federal grant called the 21st Century Community Learning Centers.

Q. Do parents have to pay?

A. No. However, we do ask that parents attend 10 events per year.

Q. Who can register?

A. Any child registered in the designated school (in our case, any child who attends Passmore Elementary) may register on a first come, first served basis, up to 120 students.

Q. Do I need to re-register every year?

A. Yes

Q. Is transportation provided?

A. No. Transportation is not provided at the Passmore campus.

Q. What are the program hours?

A. Program hours are from 2:45 P.M. to 5:30 P.M.

Q. Can I pick up my child early?

A. No. The program is designed as a place where children will be safe and secure, benefit from homework time and be exposed to arts and cultural activities. This is an enrichment program and not baby sitting. The students are involved in exciting hands-on activities, which both the teachers and the students would like to complete. Our staff is hired on a 1 to 15 ratio. If half the children left at 4:00 p.m., this would not be a good use of grant funds.  Children are expected to arrive on time and to leave the program according to the information recorded by the parents or guardians on the application form.

Q. How do you deal with discipline?

A. Should a discipline problem arise, the child will first receive a verbal warning. If there is a second offense, the parents or legal guardians will receive a phone call to discuss the problem. A third offense could be considered grounds for withdrawal from the program.

Q. Can parents visit the program?

A. Yes, we certainly invite and encourage parents to visit the program.  Please stop by the Learning Tree office and ask us about volunteering for our program.

Q. Can a neighbor pick up my child?

A. To ensure the safety of our children, we require that only the individuals the parents have indicated on the enrollment form to pick up students and then only with proper identification.
