The United States Military Academies are federal academies for the undergraduate education and training of commissioned officers for the U.S. Armed Forces. Below are the five U.S. Military Academies:
United States Military Academy
To be considered for admission to West Point, a candidate must be at least 17 but not yet 23 years old on July 1st of the year of admission, be unmarried, and have no legal obligation to support children. Candidates must be qualified academically, medically, and physically, and must receive a nomination from an approved source, such as a member of Congress.

There are many nomination sources and applicants are encouraged to apply to all available sources. This normally includes a U.S. Representative, two U.S. Senators and the Vice President of the United States.
United States Merchant Marine Academy
To be eligible to enter the Academy, you must be at least 17 years of age and must not have passed their 25th birthday before July 1 in the year of entrance. Be a citizen of the United States either by birth or naturalization, except for a limited number of international midshipmen specially authorized by Congress. Meet the physical, security and character requirements necessary for appointment as U.S. Naval Reserve, Merchant Marine Reserve midshipmen. Obtain a Congressional nomination to the Academy; submit a completed application; and qualify scholastically. Be of good moral character.
United States Air Force Academy
To be considered for admission to the Air Force Academy, a candidate must be a citizen of the United States. Your citizenship must be finalized prior to entering the Academy, a candidate must be at least 17 but not yet 23 years old on July 1st of the year of admission, be unmarried with no dependents, of good moral character, must meet high leadership, academic, physical and medical standards. Candidates must be qualified academically, medically, and physically, and must receive a nomination from an approved source, such as a member of Congress.
United States Coast Guard Academy
You are eligible to apply for the Coast Guard Academy if you are a U.S. citizen of sound moral character, unmarried with no dependants or financial debt, 17-22 years of age on July 1 of year of entry, a high school graduate or GED recipient (or will be prior to entry). Unlike the other service academies, the Coast Guard Academy does not require a congressional nomination. To be considered for admission to the Coast Guard Academy, you must submit all application materials by February 1 of the year of entrance (November 1 of the year prior to entrance for Early Action).
