The Northside ISD Family Resource Program (FRP) is an information program serving special families and professionals.


Alice Slavin, Special Education Parent Coordinator, through the FRP provides a single point of contact for parents of children with disabilities who need help or information. Her duties include:

  • Provide information concerning existing services (community and district)
  • Assist families in accessing services
  • Provides information on specific disabling conditions and available programs
  • Provides referrals to NISD and community support groups
  • Organizes parent meetings and assists in leadership when needed
  • Offers individual parent support / consultation
  • Serves as a liaison between parents and Special Education and assists parents in becoming knowledgeable about the Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD) process


A resource library is also located within the Nellie Reddix Center. This reference library includes publications and information about specific disabling conditions. Videotapes and educational / training materials are also available. The library is open from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday during the school year. Parents and professionals who call in are referred to appropriate personnel. An answering machine is available all other times.


It is the intention of the Special Education Program to build trust and understanding between the members of knowledgeable team of parents and professionals working cooperatively to provide the best possible education program.
